Anti-Hero : The Book of Judges - Chapters 10-12
This is the eighth week of our fall series entitled Anti-Hero: The Book of Judges. The first three Judges (Othniel, Ehud, and Deborah) were the best of the best. But then we took a downward turn as we looked at the life of Gideon. The next major Judge is Jephtheh, and his character flaws become more and more apparent. He unwisely makes an unbiblical vow as he negotiates with the Lord and it costs him his only child. Then he launches a civil war within the tribes of Israel utilizing a secret code word. All of this should cause us to reflect on the inner, unbiblical vows we’ve made in our own life and the coded, insider language we use to exclude those on the outside. Let’s watch learn from Jephthah so that we don’t make some of the same mistakes in our own lives.
