This is the fourth week of our fall series entitled Anti-Hero: The book of Judges. God raises up warrior leaders, called Judges, to set Israel free from the oppression of invading armies. However, these leaders are often so riddled with flaws that they would best fit the category of “anti-hero.” The first three Judges, Othniel, Ehud, and Deborah are the best of the best. They are more hero than anti-hero. They leave a strong legacy of deliverance and peace. But then we take a downward turn as we look at the life of Gideon. Far from heroic, we find Gideon weak and full of fear, hiding in a winepress when God calls him to lead the people of God. Let’s watch learn how God sees us as we were created to be and not just as we are in the moment.
